You’ve got this whole blog thing going. You’re surfing the net and see a bunch of kick ass ideas for your blog.
You’re a great writer but you’re shitty at design and coding. What do you do? Do you pay someone out the ass for some killer blog tweaks or do you learn to do it yourself? That’s the question of the day folks. Do you you get fed or learn to fish? Pick your poison.
No doubt, tweaking your blog can be a royal pain in the ass and it will frustrate the hell out of you…..but don’t pay anyone.
Learn to tweak your own blog….READ TWICE…
I knoooooowwww, you’re saying you don’t have the time, you don’t know what you’re doing. The good news is that the person you’re thinking about paying didn’t know what they were doing at first either, then they learned. Now they can charge people out the ass to pay them to do it for them….and you can too!
It doesn’t have to be so much about learning so you can charge for services (which isn’t a bad idea) so much as it is about being self sufficient. When I started blogging, I didn’t know jack about design. Now, I know a lot more than I use to but there’s still a lot about design that I don’t know. NOW, the design things like that lovely header of mine you see up there, I paid $5 on Fiverr.com.
Other things like designing the structure and layout, I do myself.
Trust this much, with an 8yr old and 3yr old running around, if I have the time to learn then you have the time to learn.
Don’t burn yourself out trying to get it all done in one day. Take my advice, you’ll quit and won’t touch your blog for months if you do that. Ask me how I know. Make a list of the things you want to do and tackle them one day at a time.
Hit up some of your fellow bloggers for help.
Find some forums and ask questions.
If you paid for a theme, their support forums are a TON of help.
Everyone and their mother works in IT, buy your programmer friend a drink.
Just remember, add great content DAILY and work on your tweaks one day at a time.
Before you know it, you’ll be a blog rock star.
If you don’t know it, then I will gladly let you pay me to do it for you….
But really, spend your money on your marketing and tweak your own blog.
Moral of the story: It’s not that deep. Just breathe and take it one day at a time. Oh…and thank me later.
